a life, a miracle

I'm not perfect. Glad we got that judgement out of the way.

The other morning, I was walking up the south campus stair way (often referred to as Satan's Stairway in my mind). It was early for a Saturday, and so no one was awake and about. I love those moments--all by myself. Especially in the newness of autumn air. I began my ascent, only pausing to look to my side where the duck pond was. At that moment, I saw the beauty of the sun finding its way through the leaves of the trees and down to cast a stunning reflection of light on the water. I paused to catch my breath that was taken from me by the beauty of the surroundings.

This was a moment in time that I could not duplicate.
It was a moment that you wish a "pause" button would appear.

I stopped and smiled.

After starring for a second longer, promising to myself I would always remember this as an exalting moment. A moment that raised me from the cares of life, and for that moment I was changed.

I wanted to give back to life at this moment.
Anne of Green Gables reminds me, that "its not what the world gives to you, its what you bring to it."

I often find myself taking my life for granted, and not only that, complain about it as well. When did this become okay, or justified? It never has.

Now I begin to seek to give back to life.  In anyway. Be grateful for something. Serve. Be kinder. Create something. Show love. Be happy. Say words of admiration. Give a hug. Share a smile. Say a prayer.

Sure life isn't perfect. School work is hard, lack of sleep makes us grumpy, work is constantly there, people are inconsiderate, and things don't just end up as we often hope they will. But, you know what, LIFE is a miracle. So this moment--that you are breathing and reading this--thats a miracle.

and looking at little children remind me again...life is a miracle.

  1. Thanks Emily for this uplifting post. I really enjoyed reading it. Life is so much better and fulfilling when we are more concerned about what we can give instead of what we can receive from this world.
