oh the weekend

hello again friends.
can i just say how fantastic this weekend was.
spiritually uplifted and celebrating my mothers birthday.
i absolutely love general conference. i just want to be a sponge and soak everything up. each talk. each song.
if you want to be inspiried, watch here. it is what I love forward to most in the whole entire year.

"It is a small voice, it whispers not shouts. And so you must be very quiet inside."
- Henry B. Eyring

When my life and world around me seems to be going 88 miles per hour, and always loud and confusing...i was able to be quiet this weekend. So quiet that I could listen to the sweet small voice of the Spirit.

"Preach the gospel, and if necessary, use words."--St. Francis of Assisi
For history sake--i needed to document this life changing event. I got my hair did. But i'm sure you are sick of this hair crap. don't worry me too. But not to worry, its over. so end of discussion.
the many many faces of Daisy A!
and look at my momma! happy birthday to her! can you believe she turned 59!? She doesn't look older than 29 right? I love my mother, immensely. Actually, i wish you all knew my mother, because she makes me a better person just being around her. I love you mom!

living, peachy, and cheescake

as hard as it is to believe that my dad and i have managed to live (breathe & eat collectively) for three full days without my mom. sure, don't ask what my room/bathroom look like, but otherwise...we are still alive {for the most part.} so far we haven't had any traumatic experiences like last time. {don't forget, last time mom left, dad and i collectively lost 8 pounds.}

in the mean time....i made this. Yes, because we all know cooking is the last thing i can do.
They are homemade cheesecakes. simple. graham crackers with vanilla yogurt or creemcheese and some jam. bon apete. delish my friends. try it. technically in my books this is acceptable to eat, because i have given up SWEETS for Lent! Although I am not catholic or ever plan to be....I figure stretching ourselves in life is good, and so why not everyone suffer together! So this is my justification for not a sweet.

on the other hand. We've gotten by on leftovers for the said three days...and we're doing great!

so chow for now!
p.s. for lent i was thinking of going without exercise, but than i realized that wouldn't be qualified as a sacrifice since i don't really do it in the first place! :)

ode to my father

happy birthday pops.

you are a grand old dad
today we celebrate your 62nd birthday and just another year of being a senior citizen. (i never realized how much your age would come in handy...discounts, advantages, etc.) :) but most importantly, its been another great year having you as my dad. despite my stubbornness, i suppose we were able to "bond" (read* sending text messages to each other when we were in separate rooms, down the hall from each other) while mom was away for months.
Thanks for putting up with me when I: only made one meal for 2.5 weeks: spaghetti, or never managed to wash your clothes when you asked me 5 days in a row, or when I ask you to edit a paper 2 hours before its due--and i only get A's in English because of you! Or when you gave me all my newspaper ideas, or when you sacrificed being late to work to talk to my teachers at PTC, or picked me up everyday from Pit Orchestra rehearsal, or taking me out to Burgerville after Pro Arte Conservatory Strings rehearsal, or taking the siblings and I to experience "local flavor" at Cruisers Diner. Thanks for teaching how to ride a bike--after I ran into Crismon. Thanks for teaching me the importance of hard work, and finishing a job until its perfect.

thanks for being the best dad. although you were gone alot from the house growing up it was because you were serving the Lord faithfully in your church callings, or helping someone in need. you always put others first in all things and i really admire that about you. Thanks for teaching us the gospel. The most important aspect in my life, you have always helped our family be better people by your example.

thanks daddy. have the happiest birthday.

love the youngest child whom you love the most,
bubs

what he said...

Across the dinner table, comments were thrown back and forth on Crismon's lack of ability to do the living essentials while away at college (such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry).Hence, this conversation came up saying all he has ate this past semester are sandwiches, because he can't cook anything else. I know you're are thinking, 'look who's talking' but I'm doing much better. I guess having no ability to do these things runs in the family, since I've never seen daddio make a single item of food, or do any laundry. I told him he cannot complain anymore about dirty laundry while mom's away because he doesn't know how to do it himself.

The other day in our scurry to get the house cleaned up, mom asked dad to retrieve the blanket from the dryer. After Dad laid the blanket out on the bed, he found an unfamiliar rectangle stuck to the blanket. Confused as dad was, he took it to mom (the all-knowing one), gently held it in his hands and inquired what it was.
"Look! I pulled Crismon's blanket out of the dryer and look what came out! What is is!?"

mom...silence.
dad...still thinking. "could it be from the dryer?"
mom..."yes, its a dryer sheet."
dad...hmm. (walks away)

Mom tells this to us at dinner. We laughed.*

*read: doubled over in pain we were laughing so hard. Of course we now have rights to give dad a hard time anytime laundry comes up.

last child left at home 101

Tonight I did something I thought I would never have to do before. Remember all those times on Sunday evening when mom and dad would announce FHE in 10 mins...and than everyone would be in the living room end up waiting for them (yeah, I remember, I'm pretty sure it was an hour one time). Well, tonight, that was the case, except I had to beg them for FHE so I could go to bed. But after persisting for about fifteen minutes, I believed it was a hopeless cause. So I did the one thing I could that would gain their attention. Email them. Yes, me on the couch with the ipod touch, sent an email asking nicely for FHE.
Let me tell you, it worked. Only in the 21st century would this scenario ever occur.

my ode to mother

To my lovely mother (who may never see this):

Thank you for everything. Literally. Thank you for...

  • letting me play with dishwasher soap all day in the kitchen
  • packing my lunches and letting me watch disney movies while you took naps
  • letting me lay on you while you napped :)
  • volunteering in my elementary school classes
  • picking me up at the bus stop everyday
  • cutting my pb&j sandwiches in "butterflies" when i requested it
  • giving me a nutty bar when a bird pooped on my nose, and bee stung my head on the same day
  • letting me get my ears pierce when i was only...*gasp* 12.
  • making my lunches everyday for the past 12 years.
  • doing my laundry...although, i feel you do this more out of fear that i would ruin all the clothes if you made me do the laundry.
  • thank you for the 6,205 consquetive dinners.

Three generations.

THANK YOU FOR BEING MY MOM. You've dealt with me for the past 17 years, and haven't killed me yet. So thank you. I love you.

the quotables

Have you ever noticed that when people age...they miraculously get funnier. I can appreciate this because I live with two ancients myself.

Here have been some of my highlights lately:
Setting: mom's birthday (Easter)
Story: its 8pm Saturday night before mom's birthday and i'm napping on the couch (after i slept for 2 hours, I stayed up for another 4 hours doing hw) anyways. Dad calls me after the priesthood session inquiring on what to get for mom. Typical, huh? i told him to get an ipod touch for me, and then we could mom our old ipod(that isn't even sold in stores anymore its so old). He opted for an mp3 player instead. The next morning, she unwraps it. Stares at it. And a looong pause. Then she says, "What is it!?" Ha ha!!!! Best moment of the day! We told her what it was and what its used for.

Setting: The living room
Story: I was explaining my prom dress to mom, commenting on how i loved that it was a bit retro with the darts and pleats. Mom stops me in mid-conversation, "whats retro?" As if its an actual thing instead of a descriptive word. I told her, mom your day is retro!

Setting: The kitchen table, dinner
We were admiring how the flowers dad got for mom were almost dead for her birthday last night. When I ask, "what do yellow flowers even symbolize anyways? because red is passion, and white is purity." Julia's like, "Friendship!" Ha ha...we all laughed, wow dad, 35 years of real good friendship huh!? You guys must be like bff's!

I love old people.
