byu round 3

Tomorrow will be the beginning of my first Winter Semester here at BYU. I'm not nervous. Perhaps excited, but also slightly hesitant, knowing i would very much like the break to last just one more week. Thats not too much to ask, right?

After this semester I will have all (okay, except 1 class) of my GE classes complete. Bingo! That in its self is some motivation to do well this semester. Forgive me if I get too personal, but I am convinved few people even read this thing anyway, so I wanted to record my thoughts, you know...for history's sake.

Last night in my scripture study, I randomly read Mosiah 2. However, after reading it...I realized it wasn't just by random, I really was able to glean from the chapter. In Mosiah 2:9, for me, was "The Formula of the Ideal Student", the latter end says, "hearken unto me, and open your ears that ye may hear, and your hearts that ye may understand and your minds that the mysteries of God may be unfolded to your view."

It is one thing to KNOW, but it is another thing to UNDERSTAND. I can learn alot of things intellectually, but to understand means you have greater depth of knowledge, you've felt, and experienced, and according to Neal A. Maxwell, experience is the most important principle of learning in life.

The rest of Mosiah 2 goes on to explain our nothingness without God. And although that is extremely humbling, I feel it is an empowering humbling...although we were created from the dust of the earth, it means we are our Heavenly Father's, with so much potential to become like Him. And its Temple focus really stuck out to me, I realized, literally where I am sitting is directly facing the Temple...yet are my thoughts, actions, and words? I wanted to rededicate myself to serving in the Temple.

And lastly, verse 41, a verse my dad encouraged me to memorize, and i failed to do so, so this semester I will. Its simple.  To be happy, we must keep the commandments. "And if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never ending happiness. O remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it."

  1. So I am no one? Well, I really liked this post. I think I will read Mosiah 2 tonight. Thanks.

  2. Loved your "understanding" of the scriptures and your insights!
